Unit 9: Putting It Together 

LESSON 2: Group Speech Coordination
Age Group: 2-3 years old
Duration: 30 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Drama: Students will be able to integrate movement, speech, and expression to perform their roles with clarity and confidence. 

  2. Music: Students will be able to coordinate singing with simple movements, keeping steady rhythm and joining group song moments with confidence. 

  3. Performance Readiness: Students will be able to face the audience, stay focused during group moments, and coordinate their actions smoothly with others on stage.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  1. Fruit props (apples, oranges, lemons, etc.)  
  2. Floor arrows or entrance markers
  3. Assigned spot markers 
  4. Narrator script 
  5. Percussion instrument (chime or drum)

REMARK: If possible, carry out this lesson on the actual stage or performance space to help children become familiar with entrances, center positions, and exits in the real environment.


LESSON PROCEDURES:
1. Warm-up (3 minutes)

• Invite children to form a circle.
• Guide singing of the Making Juice Song with designed movements to warm up voices. 
 

2. Introduce Today’s Focus: Group Speech Coordination (4 minutes)

• Invite children to watch a teacher demonstration of:  
  - entering on cue  
  - stopping at a spot  
  - waiting for the previous group to finish  
  - speaking clearly in sequence  
• Guide attention to how groups must listen to each other to keep the scene flowing.  
• Invite children to respond to a character roll call using performing voice:  
  - When different Animal names are called, invite children to reply with a performing voice: “I am here.”  

3. Practise Scenes 2 & 3: Full Script Flow (20 minutes)

Scene 2 — Alligator Family → Wolf Family → Song Entry
Alligator Entrance & Introductions

• Invite Alligator Family to wait at the entrance zone.  
• Guide children to listen for the narrator cue:  “Here comes the Alligator Family.”
• Invite Alligators to walk in and stop at their speaking spots.  
• Guide each Alligator to deliver their introduction line in order.  
• Invite children to maintain still bodies while others speak.

Alligator Fruit Line
• Invite Alligator Family to deliver:  “Hi Bears! We have apples.”  
• Guide children to hand apples calmly to the Bears.  
• Invite children to return to still, audience‑facing posture.


Wolf Entrance & Introductions

• Invite Wolf Family to listen for their narrator cue.  
• Guide Wolves to enter only after Alligators finish their fruit line.  
• Invite Wolves to walk in, stop at their spots, and deliver their introductions in order.
 

Wolf Fruit Line 

• Invite Wolf Family to deliver:  “Hi Bears! We have watermelons.”  
• Guide children to wait for the Bears’ “Thanks!” before moving. 
 

Scene 2 Song Entry
• Invite Alligators, Wolves, and Bears to shift into the juice‑making formation.  
• Guide children to face the audience and begin Rainbow Juice Song — Verse One on cue.

Scene 3 — Ostrich Family → Monkey Family → Song Entry

Ostrich Entrance & Introductions
• Invite Ostrich Family to wait for the narrator cue.  
• Guide Ostriches to enter, walk to their spots, and deliver their introductions in order.
 

Ostrich Fruit Line

• Invite Ostrich Family to deliver:  “Hi Bears! We have oranges.”  
• Guide children to hand oranges calmly and return to still posture.
 

Monkey Entrance & Introductions

• Invite Monkey Family to listen for their narrator cue.  
• Guide Monkeys to enter after Ostriches finish their fruit line.  
• Invite Monkeys to deliver their introductions in order.
 

Monkey Fruit Line

• Invite Monkey Family to deliver:  “Hi Bears! We have mangoes.”  
• Guide children to wait for the Bears’ “Thanks!” before moving.

Scene 3 Song Entry

• Invite Bears, Ostriches, and Monkeys to shift into the juice‑making formation.  
• Guide children to begin *Rainbow Juice Song — Verse One* on cue.

4. Cool Down (2 minutes)

• Invite children to return to circle.  
• Lead soft breathing and gentle stretching. 

 


ASSESSMENT:

- Observe timing of entrances linked to narrator cues.  
- Assess smooth sequencing of fruit lines.  
- Evaluate ensemble focus while other groups speak.  
- Monitor coordinated movement into song formation.
